Are you passionate about helping Manchester becoming a leading city for action on climate change? Can you help to engage and inspire new audiences to get involved? Do you have experience in implementing positive change? If the answer is yes, then now is your chance to grab a seat around the table in Manchester’s pioneering efforts to become a zero carbon, sustainable, liveable city.
The Manchester Climate Change Youth Board (MCCYB) was established in November 2017 to capture the voices of young persons who live, work and study in the city. MCCYB feed back to the Manchester Climate Change Partnership, who together with The Manchester Climate Change Agency successfully secured the city’s commitment to take urgent action to halve CO2 during 2018-22, and become a zero carbon city by 2038, at the very latest!
In the past year, the Youth Board representatives have chaired the Youth Climate Action Summit, spoken to politicians in the Town Hall about the declaration of a Climate Emergency, and have campaigned and successfully secured funding for Manchester’s first full-time Youth Climate Action Champion.
This unique Board is offering you the chance to get involved with such exciting opportunities, so come and join the front-line of climate action! Being part of the Climate Change Youth Board will build on the foundations that our members have created, work you have already been involved, as we look to boost our momentum and move to bigger and better projects.
You will be expected to work with the Youth Board to communicate with and engage young people in Manchester (25 years and below). The role will involve attending events, professional meetings and liaising directly with other members and partner organisations.
As a member of the MCCYB you will be expected to have the following skills/qualities:
• Passionate about sustainability and ensuring that Manchester takes urgent action to halve emissions by 50% during 2018-22 and becomes zero carbon by 2038
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to speak to a range of audiences
• Willingness to attend both full Manchester Climate Change Partnership and Youth Board meetings, usually in the evenings approximately once a month
• Networking within Manchester (this could be school/colleges/professional/hobbies etc)
• Flexibility to attend some weekend events approximately every three months
• Experience in hosting workshops and fundraising (desirable but not essential)
