Manchester Safeguarding Children Board is seeking to appoint a Lay Member to be a volunteer member of the Board

Manchester Safeguarding Children Board (MSCB) brings together a number of agencies across the city to ensure there is a joined up approach to safeguarding. Safeguarding means protecting a child’s right to live in safety. Manchester Safeguarding Children Board

The Board’s vision is that:
“Every child in Manchester should be able to grow up safe; free from abuse, neglect or crime; allowing them to enjoy a healthy and happy childhood and fulfil their potential.”

The role is not-paid but reasonable expenses will be covered. The successful applicant will need to have:
• an understanding of working with children and young people;
• an ability to communicate effectively within Multi - Agency meetings;
• confidence to ask questions and challenge people in a constructive way;
• commitment to promoting equality and diversity and improving the safety and continued wellbeing of children & young people in Manchester

Lay members are required to be resident in the City of Manchester. There is also a requirement that the successful candidate does not work for any of MSCB’s partner agencies. The role will include:
• Helping make links between MSCB and community groups
• Supporting stronger public engagement in local child safety issues
• Improving public understanding of MSCB’s child protection work
