My Voice My Vote project for young people

28 Nov 2014 - 10:52 by michelle.foster

My Voice My Vote, is a ground breaking project for passionate young people who have completed the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, however you won’t be turned away if you haven’t completed the NCS programme.

As an NCS progression pathway, the My Voice My Vote aim is to get young people more democratically engaged through social action. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young people to build on what they learnt through NCS and act on issues they are passionate about as young people are becoming more and more disconnected to those who are in power.

Following the fantastic success of October’s My Voice My Vote programme UpRising are running it again in Monday 16 February 2015 -20 Friday 2015.

In October the team featured on BBC Radio Manchester and have delivered social action campaigns in Salford, Manchester and Wigan, plus created their own videos with a top professional media production team, met youth representatives from the five main political parties and had the chance to work side-by-side with some of the most innovative groups tackling social issues in Manchester today.

It’s all about helping you to explore, develop and act on the issues you are passionate about, learn more about power and to develop your skills to make change.

The free, 2 week programme includes:
• A series of different workshops, including exploring power, project management and the role of the media
• A days’ worth of digital media training where you develop your own video on any issue you care about and edit it with professional film makers
• Get to meet and speak to lots of organisations who are driving social change across Greater Manchester

You will then deliver your own social action project over week 2, where you can build on your NCS experience and put your learning into action. On top of that you’ll meet loads of new people from across Manchester and UpRising will help you to break down your experience with the programme so that it can be a really valuable addition to your UCAS form and CV.

Once you have finished you will join their Graduates who are invited to loads of exciting opportunities to run events and attend (free) trips to London and the European Parliament.
