Project Evanesce

Manchester Youth Empowerment Club (MYEC) presents Project Evanesce, funded by the National Heritage Fund. It is a 12-month project, starting in October 2022 and ending in October 2023.

project evanesceThe project aims to transfer and preserve the Yoruba traditional cultural heritage on birth and the naming ceremony of the new baby on the 8th day to the immigrant children of Nigerian-Yoruba origin living in the Manchester area, born and/or raised here. The culture is at risk of disappearing, considering most youths are not practising it, and they have realised the need to understand and practise the culture.

MYEC will deliver eight reminiscence sessions on cultural heritage, and a movie will be produced by young people with the help of experts. MYEC will create apprenticeships for the young people who will participate in the movie production and every task related to the project. For example, during the movie production, the movie Producer will provide a Trainee and Mentorship Program, Insight and Usage of Equipment, and Collaboration with a Professional Lighting Crew.
