This new report launched by RECLAIM finds that young people across the city feel their knowledge is too often missing in debates on how to tackle the rise in knife crime. The project, coordinated by local working-class youth charity RECLAIM, asked young people across the city what they want and need to feel safe. With partner organisations it brought them together with professionals working on this issue to explore what would help Manchester pioneer a braver approach.
The young people involved in this project have presented a clear challenge to the sector, funders and decision-makers.
The report is timely, as RECLAIM seek to develop further work in this area, increase partnership working and investment, ensuring that young people’s voices and experiences are shaping the future of the city. Key to this will be building on their partnership with the #iwill Fund, embedding youth social action and activism into universal services in Manchester.
