Thumbs Up Community Café

19 Feb 2020 - 11:47 by michelle.foster

Thumbs up community cafe‘Thumbs Up’ is a café and community hub next door to Moodswings offices at 36 New Mount Street, located by Angel Meadow, close to Ancoats and the Northern Quarter. The café is open Monday to Friday, 10am – 2pm.

As part of Moodswings charity, they provide hands-on opportunities for people to learn skills, build confidence and recover from life’s ups and downs through volunteering, all under the supervision of experienced mentors. The café provides a safe space for visitors who want to engage with a community.

Once known as the Pot of Beer Pub, or to some the ‘Thumbs Up’, the site we set foot upon today has community embedded into its foundations. With modest opening hours, the pub became well known as a community hub for the local residents and workers due to its unique out of hours policy.

If the pub was open out of hours, a distinctive jug lay in the window, whose handle had a clenched fist with its thumb raised. A simple knock on the door and you could join in the community spirit.

Just like in the old days, Moodswings Charity wants to bring the local community back together. Thumbs Up is no ordinary café, our menu has been carefully crafted to provide wholesome food and quality drinks at affordable prices, with all profits and contributions directly supporting Moodswings.

After hours, the space also doubles as a community hub for local people.

Thumbs Up Community Café welcomes everyone!
