The theme this year is War and Impairment: The Social Consequences of Disablement, focusing on World War I. Find out more about the impact of the First World War on the two million men disabled in combat and what happened on their return.
For the first time Manchester City Council have organised a series of events for UK Disability History Month.
Events
• First World War: soldiers, shellshock and disability. A Manchester story, Central Library (1 December 2014 to 5 January 2015)
• Archives handling session for International Disabled People's Day, Central Library (3 December)
• Hidden Histories of disabled veterans and the first world war: a talk by Dr Ana Carden-Coyne, Central Library (17 December)
• The Sensory War: 1914 – 2014, Manchester Art Gallery (until 22 February 2015)
• First World War: shellshock and disability. The untold stories, People's History Museum (12 December 2014 to 5 January 2015)
