Want to find out about your family history?

From February 2013, records of baptisms, marriages and burials for the Greater Manchester area will be published online at Ancestry.co.uk.

The collections, dating from the 1500s to the 20th century, include church registers for Anglican churches in the Diocese of Manchester, including Manchester Cathedral.

In partnership with Ancestry.co.uk, Manchester City Council has digitised the original registers and there is now a name index of over 6,000,000 records accessible on the web.

Free access to Ancestry.co.uk is available at any Manchester City Council library.

As part of the regular Family History sessions, Ancestry.co.uk staff will be on hand to help with your questions in the Manchester Room at City Library on Thursday 14 February between 11am and 2pm.
