Who are lipreading classes for?
Lipreading classes are designed for people with a hearing loss who may be finding it difficult to follow conversations.
Sometimes, friends and families of people with a hearing loss also come along to learn how to communicate better with their friend or relative.
The emphasis of the class is on fully including people with a hearing loss so that they can fully understand what is going on in the class.
What do we do in the group?
Lipreading classes offer:
• Lipreading practice in a friendly atmosphere
• Strategies and tactics for difficult situations
• A chance to share problems with others with similar difficulties
• Information about assistive devices (such as flashing door bells)
• Information on hearing aids and how to look after them
• Information about useful organisations (such as Hearing Link or Action on Hearing Loss)
When is the lipreading class?
Wednesday afternoons 1pm – 3pm
Where is it?
The class meets in the Boardroom on the fourth floor in London Scottish House, 24 Mount St, Manchester, M2 3NN.
What does it cost?
The class is free to people with a hearing loss and their family.
Are there any other costs?
• Tea and biscuits at break time cost 50p
• You will need a folder or ring binder to keep your paperwork and handouts in
Is this a qualification course?
No, there is no exam or qualification at the end of the course, but there will be a certificate of attendance.
The class is friendly and informal and it is not like going back to school.
When can I join?
You can join at any time of the year depending on numbers in the class.
