TLC-St Luke’s works with those experiencing a mental health diagnosis or problems. TLC-St Luke’s think that reducing isolation is key – how? Engagement, connection, creativity and sharing – one participant nick-named it “Creation Lounge”.
There has never been a greater focus on mental health, which is clearly highlighting the demand for services that can effectively enable people to deal with their mental health issues. At least one in four people are affected by poor mental health and the wider economic cost in Greater Manchester (GM) is expected to reach £3.5bn by 2021.
TLC-St Luke’s are facing a challenging year in terms of future funding and need new dynamic trustees who are willing to get involved to oversee and support the organisation through the current and future challenges.
TLC St Luke’s are particularly looking for trustees who have experience in Mental Health Awareness, fundraising, contract management and networking.
Summary of the work
TLC-St Luke's is a well-established charity that works with adults in Manchester who experience mental health problems, including those living with an enduring psychiatric diagnosis and people who self-identify as being isolated, or otherwise struggling emotionally with life. Despite their problems people have skills, interest and want to get involved. TLC-St Luke’s are currently based at St Luke’s Church, Longsight where the work began over 30 years ago.
People coming to the centre are supported through
• effective engagement
• connection with others
• creativity
Services include a busy community arts studio and projects run by professional artists, a friendly affordable drop in cafe where people volunteer and learn cooking and baking; trips to cultural and green spaces of the city, exercise and complementary therapies. Together, people taking part have created their own vital community resource.
The work of the project is currently funded through Our Manchester Voluntary and Community Sector grants (MCC); small amounts of income generation and a variety small grants, plus support in kind from trustees, our many partners and a brilliant volunteer team.
If you have experience of managing employees/volunteers and developing services then we would love to hear from you.
Meetings take place every four weeks and are held in the early evening to enable trustees with daytime commitments to attend. TLC-St Luke’s also welcome new trustees who have volunteer experience and have an interest in making a difference.
TLC-St Luke’s are seeking people from diverse backgrounds and communities to be more reflective of our service users and the wider Greater Manchester population and TLC-St Luke’s encourage people with a lived experience of mental health issues to apply. These are voluntary roses and the key attributes for the position are integrity and commitment.
