the classroomJessica Wiehler, a local artist, is currently working on a project with Contact Theatre to curate a small, free book made up of anecdotes from people in Greater Manchester who have 'slipped through the net' of support or are financially compromised in the low-wage sector (not specifically related to Covid-19) based on the rise of in-work poverty.

The book is a culmination of information on the emergence of minimum wage, its intention and reality. It will include factual and experiential data and will also consider the position of business owners. The intention is to bring more clarity to why we're paid what we're paid, to promote transparency on the side of employee and employer in hope that it will improve work relationships, and to provoke thought and thinking around the system itself, encouraging other means of in-work support beyond wage per hour.

Jessica is looking for community groups interested in sharing the booklet on Greater Manchester low-wage life stories with their users. The booklet is a free resource.
