Youth and Play Investment Fund

Earlier this year, local elected members made a commitment to the youth and play sector by investing an extra £500,000 into the city and the sector to ensure more was being done for our fundingchildren and young people.

Manchester City Council are aiming this funding towards small and/or new grassroots organisations. The funding is mainly geared towards activities and provision for young people, however there is a suggested funding list which is included within the guidance document. Organisations must be based, registered and operating within Manchester and must have a turnover of less than £75,000.  

Examples of the types of activities you may wish to apply for:

  • Youth work across all wards and levels of income
  • Projects around safe spaces for young people
  • Outdoor activities, especially those that focus on nature and the environment
  • Detached and street-based activities
  • Outdoor pursuits and trips
  • Park based activities and facilities
  • Targeted support groups for young people
  • Projects around life and digital skills and life outside of school
  • Youth clubs
  • Organisational/structural development e.g., training support
  • Social action and campaigning projects
  • Wellbeing projects
  • Employability/next steps projects
  • Youth activities operating out of Youth hubs/centres
  • Quality youth and play work
  • Social and emotional support for young people
  • Support for young carers – activities that are inclusive and supportive of them

Any voluntary, community, faith sector organisation / group can apply providing they are:

  • Groups / organisations operating in Manchester
  • Generating an annual income of less than £75,000
  • Your organisations income is over £75,000, however the youth and play income is under £75,000, you are eligible to apply. This will need to be evidenced through, for example, financial statements/cashflow
  • CIC’s with asset locks
  • Non-profit organisations (private organisations unfortunately cannot apply)

You can apply for minimum grant of £1,000 and a maximum grant of up to £5,000.

There will be two competitive rounds.
The application window opens on 1 October 2022 and closes 3 January 2023.

  • Applications received between 1 October 2022 and 14 November 2022, will reach panel on or around 1 December 2022.
  • Applications received between 15 November 2022 and 3 January 2023 will reach panel on or around 16 January 2023.
