 This funding programme is now closed.

£30 Million is now available to fund community projects in some of the most deprived areas of the country. People will be encouraged to give time, expertise and resources towards the projects they identify in their areas. The government will match these pound for pound, helping to stimulate local action towards meeting community needs.

Funding Priorities
Each ward has its own Community First Panel which is made up of members of your community who have come together to produce a list of priorities to improve your area. If a project fits in with these priorities then the panel may recommend it for funding.
Priorities
1. Increase participation in community activities via new groups set up
2. Encourage neighbourhoods to come together through supporting community events
3. Support activities that develop well being of residents

You can apply for a grant from a minimum of £250 to a maximum of £2,500 per year. The programme will run until March 2015 and funds will be available during that time.
Projects funded

Over 30 projects have been funded.  There has been lots of interest in the local area and a wide range of projects have been supported.   These include

community fundays and clean up days

community football clubs

training and volunteering opportunities for local residents

community celebration events

Park/heritage events

improvement of green spaces

tenants and residents groups.

This consultation is designed to engage the local community to identify the local priorities for future funding of Community First applications. Click here to take part in the consultation

Our Gorton North Community First Plan was sent out to two local networks 22nd March 2013. The first was our Ward Coordination group including local politicians, key supporting partners (including local council departments, Registered Social Landlords, Police and other key organisations serving the local community including 25 members. The second group is a local resident’s forum known as Gorton All Together, including 37 residents, friends groups and voluntary sector representatives from Gorton. The ward priorities stated within the plan was discussed and agreed by members.
