Join Afrocats and the Whitworth to hear all about an award-winning partnership building communities and supporting social inclusion.
Afrocats, a charity dedicated to supporting Global Majority communities through cultural art, will be joined by the Whitworth to explore and share how inclusive practices supports community collaboration. And why working with Global Majority artists allows the Whitworth’s work to have a more meaningful, culturally competent impact and, in turn, further develops artists practice.
Afrocats’ collaboration with the Whitworth began in the February half-term of 2022, providing long-term support to families during the school holidays.
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England this last year the Whitworth have provided four half terms of free culturally relevant activities, accessible to all.
The Whitworth’s learning across the year focuses on outreach, artist mentorship and creative community engagement.
The symposium will host speakers from across the project who will share best practice, challenges and new methods of approaching this work as a Gallery of Sanctuary, as well as highlight the importance of working with community VCFSE organisations.
The event will include:
- A series of keynote speakers
- Panel discussions
- Interactive workshops
- Networking opportunities
The event has a particular focus on creative health and community partnership and is open to all, inviting VCFSE organisations, cultural venues, academic researchers, freelance artists/practitioners, students and volunteers.
