The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) event will be hosted by the Trust’s Chairman (Kathy Cowell OBE, DL), and as in previous years MFT are planning some fun, interactive activities from several NHS Professions/Departments, including demonstrations from:
- Midwifery
- Gynaecology
- Pharmacy
- Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
- Community Orthoptic Service
- Speech & Language Therapy
- Dental Education
- The Northern Contraception and Sexual Health Clinic
MFT will also need some volunteers for the Orthopaedic Team – who’ll be demonstrating ‘plaster of paris’ techniques again this year.
As well as NHS stand-holders giving practical demonstrations and career tips, the event provides a safe space for young people to also receive general health and well-being information.
At the event MFT will be promoting membership of their NHS Foundation Trust which is open to children and young people who are aged 11 years or above. Being a member of the hospitals enables involvement and learning opportunities to be more readily received.
Opportunities include a ‘Youth Forum’, ‘Volunteering’ and ‘NHS Careers Hub’, alongside providing a forum to share views and ideas. For young members aged 16 years or over, this also gives them the chance to stand for election as one of the governors, and represent the views and opinions of young people/wider general public, and share these with the Board of Directors.
