Together, we can harness your passion and expertise to build a brighter future for the people who need it most. Your staff will challenge themselves, learn new skills and meet some incredible and inspiring people from your local community.

Join us today and make a difference by being part of a global movement for social justice. Engage your employees and fight inequality worldwide.

What our shops do

Retail raises income that funds Oxfam’s lifesaving and life-changing work. Working with Oxfam will strengthen your brand reputation and highlight your commitment to making a positive impact. Research shows companies who offer volunteering days report less sick leave and have better staff retention and engagement. Employees feel valued by and connected to their organisation through giving back leading to happier, more motivated teams.

Help our shops/hubs run smoothly

Our shops are an important part of their local community. A place to make new friends, grow in confidence, and to be part of real change in the world both locally and globally.

You’ll have the chance to experience a busy and varied retail environment on the shop floor or behind the scenes. You will also be able to contribute or develop your skills.

Role and activities could include:

  • Working on the shop floor and using a computerised till.
  • Sorting, valuing and pricing donated stock.
  • Visual merchandising and window dressing.
  • Pricing, displaying and ordering our new product range such as Fairtrade food, gifts and cards.

How to get involved

Please complete this short form and we will talk through your options and match you to an appropriate location. We will make it easy for your team to register for a shift by creating a bespoke webpage and support you with our reference processes.

We’ll chat to you before the day, so your team will be ready to hit the ground running. Of course there will be some time for shopping too!

A fast-track induction process in shop means more time is spent volunteering.

We want to hear your feedback, so we’ll ask your team to complete a short satisfaction survey after their volunteering day. This means we can keep improving our offer.

Parks logo

Manchester Parks

Why choose Parks

Manchester City Council’s Parks service manages an extensive network of parks,

playgrounds, allotments, and green spaces that serve as vital community assets across the city. The Parks team is responsible for maintaining around 144 parks and green spaces, ensuring that they are safe, welcoming, and accessible for visitors and members of the community.

Manchester’s parks are central to the city’s vision of being healthier, happier, and more connected; offering spaces for exercise, relaxation, and connecting with nature, while also supporting biodiversity and reducing carbon emissions.

Benefits of volunteering in parks

By spending your volunteering days in parks, you can demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and community well-being. It is also an opportunity for your team to:

• Get away from the office and enjoy the outdoors in one of Manchester’s parks

• Build stronger teamworking through hands-on activities

• Learn new skills while making a tangible difference

• Experience the physical and mental health benefits of spending time in nature

How you can impact Parks

The contributions of volunteer groups in parks are extremely valuable in helping us:

• Conserve natural habitats for wildlife in our parks

• Protect our natural spaces and help to improve air quality

• Make parks more resilient to climate change and flooding

• Keep our parks clean, safe, welcoming, and accessible for all members of the

community

Station South Logo

Station South

Station South is a destination cycle café, bar, workshop, urban garden and community hangout.

We sit proudly in the beautifully restored Levenshulme South Station building, saved from falling into disrepair and given a modern purpose as a different kind of travel and community hub. Station South is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) set up for community benefit.

Station Green hosts a range of facilities including bike hire, bike tools, seating, toddler’s bike maze, bike parking and an accessible solar lit path onto the greenway; as well as our Green Hub: a community growing space designed and constructed by local volunteers.

How can you help?

We have opportunities for groups of volunteers within our urban garden to continue with the transformation of this accessible greenspace connecting the Fallowfield Loop and Levenshulme High Street. Your team could either assist with our year round activities such as growing fruit and vegetables, tending to our flower garden full of plants for pollinators or creating organic plant food. We can also provide bespoke sessions for your team on projects such as

  • building new planters

  • planting fruit bushes
  • growing a mini forest garden
  • making bug hotels and biodiverse wildlife habitats

Volunteering at Station South helps transform space for people and wildlife, reducing our impact on climate, increasing biodiversity and improving the wellbeing of the hundreds of people passing through and using the gardens each day and for years to come.

We provide all relevant training and advice to make your day fun, informative and impactful. Experienced and flexible, our team will make organising the day simple. We can help make your day extra welcoming by providing  top quality seasonal, local food and drink from our cafe/bar, please inquire if you would like this option.

What are the benefits for your organisation?

Get some exercise in the outdoors, spend quality time with colleagues, learn practical skills, connect with nature, improve wellbeing and enjoy time together while supporting action on climate. There’s plenty to take away from the day and a legacy to leave behind.

Opportunities for smaller groups or individuals

We are also able to accommodate smaller groups or individuals as part of our regular weekly volunteer sessions.

Chapter One’s Online Reading Volunteer programme connects schools and children with corporate volunteers. These volunteers spend 30 minutes reading online with the same child each week. Each corporate partner supports one or more teams of ten employee volunteers who usually read with ten children in the same class.

Each organisation nominates a co-ordinator to lead volunteer recruitment and encourage volunteers to register, access training and complete their enhanced DBS checks. Corporate partners are asked to contribute £3,650 for each team of 10 volunteers. This helps to cover the costs of running the programme such as laptops, DBS checks and training.

Friends of Didsbury Park - The Kings Award

Friends of Didsbury Park

The Friends of Didsbury Park Volunteers group was formed in November 2014 and meets regularly every week come rain, hail or shine to work in Didsbury Park. To date our volunteers have undertaken over 50,000 hours of voluntary service to maintain and improve the park.

In July 2018 the Friends of Didsbury Park became a charity, primarily in order to access more funding available to charities so that more and more investment could be made into improvements in Didsbury Park.

Our normal volunteer day is Monday morning and our normal hours are between 0930 and 1300.

When you arrive at the park on volunteering day will you please make your way to the Victorian Shelter in the middle of the park where you will find volunteers in hi-vis vests. Please ask for Brian Johnson.

Every week, following the volunteering session an update report about the work we have undertaken is available for all to read on the website friendsofdidsburypark.com The report is located in 'Brian's Blog' which can be accessed via the home page. Reading the blog will be a good way to find out exactly the sort of work we are currently undertaking.

Here are a few examples of the sort of volunteering activities which are available for you to participate in:

planting bulbs, and plants

sowing seeds

weeding and composting flower beds

installing benches

painting children's playground

pruning

cutting grass

laying turf

trimming hedges

litter picking

installing kick fencing

etc etc

And all of these activities take place in the fresh air in a beautiful park which was voted by the public in 2022 as the 'Most Favourite Park' in Manchester!! (There hasn't been a national vote since so I reckon we are therefore still the 'Most Favourite Park in Manchester'!!)

Our volunteering team was also awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service in 2023 - the highest award a volunteer team can achieve in the UK and equivalent to an MBE.

All we ask of you is that you wear appropriate footwear and clothing for working outside. We will provide a hi-vis vest, gloves (although some people prefer to bring their own) and all necessary tools and equipment.

We volunteer every Monday morning, no matter what the weather. We never postpone.

If you have any questions, would like some more information or you or your team would like to join us then  then please do not hesitate to contact us via our website friendsofdidsburypark.com or directly via email to Brian Johnson, brian.a.p.johnson@btinternet.com

We look forward to welcoming you to Didsbury Park soon.
