Team volunteering is often difficult and costly for a charity to facilitate, especially small community groups.
A report from Three Hands talks about the need for skills sharing rather than offers of groups of employee volunteers. The report highlights that there is a ‘clear mismatch between the support being offered to charities, and the support that charities need. What charities are crying out for are pro bono support, skills sharing/training, and fundraising.’
Hence why we advocate and facilitate (via previous projects such as Skill Givers) mechanisms for employee volunteers to use their volunteering leave to support organisations with individual, often skilled, tasks rather than using volunteering as more of a free or low-cost team away day.
We do understand that sometimes teams want to volunteer together and if this is the case we advocate building a relationship with a not-for-profit organisation and finding out what is most useful for them, this could be using your employer-supported volunteer hours to plan a fundraiser or an event for an organisation for example.
Therefore, although Volunteer Centre Manchester do not directly facilitate group volunteer we can help you to make those connections with voluntary sector organisations we can send the information you give us to organisations in our network and ask them to contact you directly - you can see an example of a previous mail out here.
You can also view corporate volunteering opportunities here. These are organisations that are happy to take enquiries from businesses for corporate volunteering days, and you can find details of what their offer is.
