Greater Manchester Cancer Education Strategic Plan - Consultation

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the NHS have published the first formal draft of the Greater Manchester Cancer Education Strategic Plan, commissioned as part of the recently published GM Cancer Plan. A consultation has been opened for groups and individuals to give comments.

Interventions in community organisations to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Public Health Research Programme wishes to commission primary research on the effectiveness of interventions in community organisations for improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. Proposals must evaluate interventions with the potential for wider future application to build evidence for local decision makers. Studies must have a primary health outcome.

Manchester has ambitious and exciting plans to build a Local Care Organisation (LCO): www.manchesterccgs.nhs.uk/the-lco-prospectus. Michael McCourt has now taken up post as Interim Chief Executive for the Manchester Provider Board (MPB). MPB is a group of providers who intend to bid for the Manchester LCO, currently the subject of ISAP review and intended to be open for procurement in the coming months.

NHS Blood and Transplant has launched a campaign in Manchester and Salford to promote organ donation. There are 143 people in Manchester and Salford waiting for a transplant now. They need people to say yes to organ donation so they can get the organ transplant they need.

Living with and beyond cancer group

New members are always made welcome to the living with and beyond cancer group, which is open to anyone in Manchester and surrounding areas. Everyone has had cancer or is living with the condition. There is a lively chat each time on a different theme with everyone sharing and learning from each other.

The group meets in the Post-Graduate Centre at North Manchester General Hospital at 10am-12noon.

Street parties planned to remember murdered MP Jo Cox

Thousands of street parties, picnics and baking competitions will be held on 17 and 18 June to remember MP Jo Cox, a year after she was murdered. The Greate Get Together

Her widower Brendan said the UK-wide event, called The Great Get Together, would be a "fitting tribute" to the mother-of-two who died on 16 June 2016.

Her murder was "designed to divide our country" so uniting in this way would be "a powerful statement", he added.
