Manchester's communities

Macc supports Manchester's diverse voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. We hope to reflect this diversity in our city and focus on inclusion in these pages. We will be linking in National awareness days, weeks and months with the work of Manchester’s communities - highlighting prominent local figures, advertising local community events, raising awareness and providing further information and resources.

Black History Month

October is Black History Month. We have put together some pages of local prominent Black people, events and information and resources.

These pages include local community groups and organisations and short interviews with prominent Mancunians.

LGBT History Month takes place in February, whilst Pride Month is June. These pages recognise the contribution of LGBTQ+ people in Manchester, both past and present. There are also other resources and details of volunteering opportunities.

Celebrating Manchester's LGBTQ+ communities

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month takes place every June as a celebration of Romany Gypsy, Irish Traveller, Roma and nomadic histories and cultures. It serves as a time to recognise and eradicate biases that are present in society today. We have highlighted some key organisations and events taking place across Manchester.

Disability Pride Month

Throughout the month of July, Disability Pride Month is celebrated to recognise the experience and contributions of disabled people across the UK. It similarly serves as a time to raise awareness of disabilities, disabled people and some the biases that we are working towards eradicating as a society.
