Gaddum have launched a Culturally Appropriate Advocacy service across Greater Manchester for Black Asian and Minority Ethnic people who have experienced treatment under the Mental Health Act.
About the Culturally Appropriate Advocacy service
Gaddum will be delivering this service in partnership with African and Caribbean Mental Health Services (ACMHS) who have been Advocacy partners since 2021.
This service is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) as part of the ongoing work into the reform of the Mental Health Act. The service will build on the success of the first pilot launched in 2021 which you can read about here: Culturally Appropriate Advocacy – Gaddum
The service will provide:
- Group advocacy sessions in inpatient and community settings for BAME people who have been treated under the Mental Health Act
- Training in the community on Culturally Appropriate Advocacy
- Training for professionals on Cultural competency and advocacy
- A robust coproduction element, drawing on the expertise from people who have accessed mental health services to inform what we do.
Gaddum want to hear from Experts by Experience
“Experts by Experience” are people who have lived experiences relevant to the services offered. They are the experts in knowing how services can help them and Gaddum will be ensuring their Experts by Experience are at the heart of what they do.
Gaddum want to connect with individuals who are Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic in Greater Manchester who:
- Have received inpatient mental health services (currently or in the past)
- Have been placed on a CTO (Community Treatment Order) or
- Are at risk of being detained under the Mental Health Act
