GMPA: Mapping local child and family poverty strategies

Greater Manchester Poverty Action (GMPA) have launched: Mapping local child and family poverty strategies a new resource that maps local child and family poverty strategies across England. The aim is to support local authorities and their partners, to identify best practice and to understand the approaches to tackling poverty being taken in different parts of the country. So far GMPA has mapped strategic approaches to tackling child and family poverty in 49 top-tier local authority areas. GMPA have found that approaches vary, with 24 of the 49 having a child or family poverty strategy in place with the remaining 25 incorporating a focus on child and family poverty within a broader strategy or set of strategies. GMPA are particularly keen to work with each of the ten Greater Manchester local authorities (and their partners). GMPA wants to ensure that each area in Greater Manchester has a robust and effective approach to tackling child and family poverty in place and support the sharing of best practice across the city region.

GMPA have produced a briefing which explains more about the need for local child and family poverty strategies and the background to their map.

GMPA will produce an updated map in December showing other areas in England as well as Scotland and Wales.
