Between now and 31 August, every donation towards Henshaws work with Children and Young People, will be matched funded, by a local businessman. This means a donation of £25 would be worth £50, or a donation of £1,000 would be worth £2,000. If you are able to fundraise or make any donation during this period, it would make an incredible difference to a young person living with a visual impairment.
Children come to us reluctant to acknowledge or talk about their sight loss. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this, with 67% of children we surveyed saying they feel more worried than usual. The children we support usually haven’t met others with sight loss, and are used to feeling ‘different’ and alone. They often have very low aspirations for the future, believing their sight loss will continue to disadvantage them throughout their life. They believe they can’t cook a meal, can’t try something new and can’t go on to have a full and independent life.
