Macc Equality Survey

23 Jun 2021 - 14:41 by michelle.foster

maccMacc is reviewing our equalities and inclusion approach. We have been wanting to do this work for some time and while COVID-19 has disrupted so much over the last year, we believe this work is important and so we are now starting this as lockdown measures are easing. In the light of the increased focus on tackling racism, we want to make sure we are playing our part in that movement as best we can.

Like all organisations, Macc is always a “work in progress”. We know that we do not always get it right and that there is always room for improvement, always more we can do. We want to understand more about how Macc is seen by VCSE sector organisations in Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities. We know that some of that might be uncomfortable for us to hear but listening is the only way we can move forward.

If you have accessed our services, we would like to make sure we hear what your experience of this was. We also want to reach out to groups who may not have worked with Macc before as well as those we work with on a more regular basis.

Macc will engage key Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic organisations in a focus group following the survey. Macc is pleased to be working with brap on this review as a non-recipient of Macc’s services and outside the City, they bring expertise in developing anti-racism work and an independent perspective from outside of our local Manchester sector. You can find out more about brap’s work here https://www.brap.org.uk/

In the spirit of living our values (supportive, collaborative, influential) this short survey has been developed by brap with Macc and members of our Board of Trustees. It is designed to help Macc, our board, staff, and volunteers understand the current reach of our work and how our organisation and our work and services are experienced by groups in communities experiencing racial inequalities in Manchester. We will use the results to feed into our ongoing work to develop our anti-racism action plan and our practice and become a more inclusive organisation.

You can complete the survey anonymously or leave your contact details at the end.

Please complete the survey by clicking on this link by 11 July 2021.

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete.

Please note that Macc will not see your responses, the results will be collated by brap.

If you would like to find out more about the survey we are holding a Your Voice Matters event, where there will be an opportunity to talk to some of our board members including Charles Kwaku-Odoi from CAHN. This event will take place on 7 July 2021 and we will send out a separate invite for this.

Please do pass this survey onto other Black Asian Minority Ethnic led VCSE organisations, we want it to be distributed as widely as possible.

Please note we have used the term BAME in certain parts of the survey because we think it is a term that is well understood in our sector. However we do recognise it is limiting. Our principle is to describe individuals, groups and networks in the way that they prefer.

With thanks and best wishes

Mike Wild, Chief Executive, Macc
