Voluntary Youth Manchester Campaign to keep the Youth Fund

11 Nov 2014 - 15:51 by michelle.foster

Voluntary Youth Manchester (VYM) is running a campaign to retain the youth fund for the benefit of young people and the VCS organisations that work with them.

Write to your local Councillor
You will be aware that Manchester City Council is facing another round of massive cuts to its budget over the next two years, and that youth services in the city have already faced savage, disproportionate cuts since 2010-11, leaving funding for direct delivery at a mere 13% of what it was only 4 years ago.

VYM is therefore coordinating a campaign to ‘Keep the Youth Fund’ to ensure that it is protected from yet more cuts.

VYM are encouraging as many people as possible to write to their local Councillor to let them know how important it is that the Youth Fund does not face further cuts. For further information, visit: www.vymnetwork.org.uk/keep-youth-fund-write-councillors/

Sign the petition by 22 November
4000 signatures are need on an e-petition on Manchester City Council’s website, that calls upon the Council to support and invest in young people by maintaining the current level of its Youth Fund in the 2015-16 budget by 22 November 2014.

If 4000 signatures are received, the Council has to discuss the petition and engage with the petitioner in no more than three months, hence the short timescale to get signatories. For further information, visit: www.vymnetwork.org.uk/keep-youth-fund-sign-petition/
