Young Manchester has launched their new fund for the City that will enable children and young people to take part in outdoor activities and enjoy residential trips to expand their learning.

The Outdoor Learning and Adventurous Activity Fund has commissioned £40,000 which will enable 19 Manchester based organisations to run 22 different activities over the next nine months. Water Adventure Centre

The money will give young people aged 8 – 19 years the opportunity to take part in adventurous activities such as kayaking, bushcraft, mountain climbing, paddle-boarding, archery and Geocaching.

In addition, it will fund several residential trips to Ghyll Head, Ormside Mill and Wyre Community Land Trust and give young people the chance to experience the outdoors, where they will engage in team building exercises to help develop their communications skills, self-confidence and leadership.

Mohammed Dawd Ali, Manager at partner organization Communities 4 All, said "Communities 4 All are delighted to be working with Young Manchester to be able to provide outdoor learning opportunities for our young people.  Through this work, we will be taking groups from Cheetham Hill in the north of the city over to Wythenshawe Park in the south, to take part in adventurous activities with Nacro's Outdoor Learning team.’’
‘’This is a fantastic opportunity to enable our young people, many of whom spend the majority of their time in the local area, to challenge themselves in the outdoors and try things for the first time - helping to build their resilience and team working skills."

The fund supports Manchester City Council’s Outdoor Learning strategy ‘Learning through Adventure’, which aims to ensure that all children and young people in the city have access to a range of outdoor learning that enables them to have fun, stay healthy and improve their long-term outcomes.

Cllr Luther Rahman, Executive Member for Schools, Culture and Leisure and Trustee of Young Manchester added, "It is great to see more opportunities for children and young people to take part in activities that develop their confidence and skills.’’
‘’The experiences young people have when learning outdoors, in new environments and by going outside of their comfort zone, can stay with them for many years. We want young people to be inspired through these activities - and go on to make adventurous activities and outdoor learning a key part of their lives."

The fund was set up in collaboration with Manchester City Council with an aim to make a positive impact on children’s and young people’s personal, social and educational development, through outdoor leaning and play.

Young Manchester launched In November 2017 and is a charity established to commission youth and play services across the City of Manchester with a mandate to make Manchester a world-class City for children and young people, where they can be happy, safe, realise their full potential and prosper from the city's economic growth.
