This training package is for researchers who want to break stereotypes around addiction and recovery, centre family experiences, and create research that truly matters.
Co-produced with parents with lived experience, our audio story and insights are designed to support you in creating meaningful and impactful research that leads to rich and diverse outcomes.
The Story
Why Can’t You Be Normal is an immersive audio story about a young woman called Hayley. Hayley is in early recovery. Her children were removed from her a year ago. They live with her Mum and Dad. This is a big week for Hayley. This week, her children will be returning to live with her.
Hayley is a fictional character devised by parents in recovery, using their skills, imagination and lived experience as inspiration.
What will I receive when I sign up?
The Why Can't You Be Normal research training package will be released on Monday 11th November 2024. When you sign up here, you will receive:
- The link to listen to Why Can't You Be Normal - a 25 minute immersive audio story coproduced by parents with lived experience of addiction and recovery.
- An accompanying audio insight package exploring the barriers and benefits of involving parents affected by addiction and recovery in research. The audio features the voices and lived experience of people affected by this issue.
- Transcripts to accompany the audio.
- Blog about how the piece was made
- Signposting information where support can be found for individuals affected by the issues explored.
This package is an interactive training tool designed to support you to spark thoughts, insights, and discussion around the topic with your fellow researchers and team, so you feel inspired to design research that is creative, accessible, and beneficial to the people that matter to you!
