Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank are pleased to announce that next year’s Manchester Day Parade will take place on Sunday 2 June 2013.
The Parade, now in its 4th year, is a large scale community procession celebrating the city of Manchester and what it means to be Mancunian. The 2012 parade attracted over 50,000 people, with around 2,000 people taking part. Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank want to let as many potential participants as possible (community groups, volunteers, and organisations from throughout the city) know about the date so please spread the word.
Application forms will be sent out to participate in the parade in the first week of January. The closing date for applications will be 10 February 2013.
This year's theme is 'Wish you were here!' - a celebration of place, people, and identity.
Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank want to encourage as many people as possible across the city to take part in the Parade. However entry in the Parade is subject to a selection process and cannot be guaranteed. Although Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank will try to involve as many groups as possible, resources are limited and they will have to say no to some groups. If the event is oversubscribed, as it was in 2010, 2011 and 2012, priority will be given to:
• Groups and individuals who haven’t been involved before
• Groups who are able to bring some funding or resources to the parade
• Groups or individuals who are willing to work together to create a section of the Parade
Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank would like the Parade to be as GREEN as possible and therefore will be discouraging the use of motorised vehicles as floats or diesel powered generators. Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank actively embrace structures which can be walked, pushed, pulled or wheeled.
