Advicenow will be running a free housing/homelessness rights course for community groups supporting refugees. The course will be delivered online and is funded by The Disrupt Foundation.
The course aims to give you the basic knowledge and skills needed to deal with key issues for people dealing with homelessness and living in temporary accommodation.
The course will be delivered online. You will be required to watch a 30-minute introductory video before each interactive session.
This training is intended for organisations in England, as legal frameworks differ across the devolved nations.
Week 1
Monday 24th November 10am-12pm The basics of tenancies and other housing arrangements
Tuesday 25th November 10am-12pm Dealing with homelessness applications
Week 2
Monday 1st December 10am-12pm Living in temporary accommodation
Tuesday 2nd December 10am-12pm Housing and Benefits
It is important you are able to attend all four sessions as later sessions build upon the knowledge from previous ones.
You do not need to know anything about housing law to apply as these workshops are aimed at people with no formal legal training. The workshops will be delivered in English and accessibility needs can be submitted in the registration form.
We are particularly keen to invite participants who are community volunteers, members of a support group, a grassroots mutual aid organisation, or something similar.
The workshops are free to attend however, spaces are limited. We will prioritise participants from community/grassroot organisations who have not already attended one of our housing courses. Due to limited capacity, we will accept a maximum of two participants per organisation.
