Manchester offers childcare providers a unique opportunity

Manchester is offering unprecedented market opportunities for experienced childcare providers in the near future.

Manchester City Council is committed to ensuring that its diverse population of young people get the best possible start in life, regardless of background, and are well supported throughout their early years. The Council are therefore looking to accept bids from high-quality day care providers, whether large or small - private sector, third sector or community-based, to deliver high quality day care in Manchester.

Spot the signs - working with child sexual exploitation

New advice for parents, professionals and young people on the signs of sexual exploitation and how to keep safe

It is important that voluntary sector organisations that work with children and young people understand sexual exploitation, can understand and spot the signs of sexual exploitation and know what to do if a child or young person discloses.

NSPCC Helpline Campaign

The NSPCC have launched a campaign to encourage members of the public not to wait before taking action if they have concerns about the safety or protection of a child.

They will be running a six week television campaign, mainly on day time television and late night after children are in bed when parents have an opportunity to take in and think about the campaign messages. They will also be using video on demand and Facebook and Twitter to promote the messages.

Dealing with Neglect

Neglect

Recently I attended a neglect summit organised by Manchester Safeguarding Children Board. A summit seems like a heady title but felt fitting for the task at hand. The summit was facilitated by Professor Jan Howarth who is working with several LSCB’s around issues of neglect and has led several research projects and written books on multi-agency approaches to neglect.

Manchester Youth Fund & Play Fund 2013 - 2015

The Manchester Youth Fund and Play Fund 2013/2015 seeks to provide an appropriate, sufficient and equitable spread of provision for 5-19 year olds (up to 25 for those in vulnerable groups) across the city. Funding for both youth and play has been aligned for the commissioning of projects running from 1 July 2013 until 31 March 2015 in order to allow and encourage organisations to consider possible models that allow economy of scale and lead to innovative approaches that will make a real difference to children and young people in areas of highest need.

Network(ing)

Hi, and welcome to the new VYM Blog. Although this is entered as Ross’s blog, VYM is much more than Ross Grant, but more of that later. In particular though, it is also Sarah Gilston, VYM’s much valued Communication Support Worker, without whom you would receive very limited communication from VYM, and there's the Board of Trustees that governs and supports VYM staff.
