Join the Making Manchester Fairer Programme Board

Do you want to help make Manchester a fairer place to live?

The Making Manchester Fairer Programme Board looking for new volunteer members to join them. To apply, you must:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Live and/or work in Manchester

This is a chance to help tackle health inequalities in the city. Health inequalities mean that some people have poorer health and shorter lives than others.

As a volunteer Board member, you'll use your skills and experience to help improve the lives of Manchester residents.

Applications are welcomed from people of all backgrounds the Making Manchester Fairer Programme Board would especially like to hear from:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • South Asian men

These groups are currently underrepresented on the Board. Employees of Manchester City Council are not eligible to apply for these roles.

The Making Manchester Fairer Programme Board is looking for people who understand how health inequalities affect:

  • Children and young people
  • Older people
  • Poverty and debt
  • Employment
  • Housing and homelessness
  • Racism and discrimination
  • Places, transport and climate change
  • Communities and power

The Making Manchester Fairer Programme Board is also interested in hearing from people who understand how businesses can help make Manchester fairer.

What does the Programme Board do?
The Programme Board helps guide the work of Making Manchester Fairer. It helps make sure the MMF Action Plan is delivered and supports fairer health outcomes across the city.

The Board includes people from different backgrounds, including:

  • Public services
  • Healthcare
  • Social enterprise
  • Business
  • Local communities
  • Members bring a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience

What would I do as a Board member?
You would:

  • Help shape the future work of Making Manchester Fairer
  • Support delivery of the Action Plan and Anti-Poverty Strategy
  • Check that partner organisations are delivering their agreed actions
  • Review progress and challenge where needed
  • Speak up for Making Manchester Fairer and the Anti-Poverty Strategy
  • Keep confidential information private
  • Build good working relationships with Board members and partner organisations
  • Attend Board meetings and relevant events
  • Read meeting papers before meetings and take part in discussions

How often does the Board meet?
The Board meets in person every three months.
You'll receive meeting papers one week before each meeting. This gives you time to read the information and prepare.

Applications are welcomed from people in:

  • Public sector organisations
  • Private sector organisations
  • Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations
