As chair, building and maintaining a successful relationship with your chief executive is a key part of the role. But it’s not always a simple task. Each relationship is complex, dynamic and unique and it needs time, energy and effort to make it a success.
This interactive session will look at what is needed at key stages in the chair-chief executive relationship including appraising your chief executive. We (AoC) will provide insight and tips on how to build a successful relationship with your chief executive as well as pointers for when things go wrong.
It will cover:
- Navigating the boundaries between the role of chair and chief executive
- Setting objectives, appraisals and performance management
- Providing a balance between appropriate challenge and support to get the best from one another
- Examples of successful chair/chief executive relationships and tips for when things aren’t working
