Policy and Influence

This Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) survey seeks to understand Greater Manchester residents’ experiences and concerns regarding the impacts of climate change, as well as the types of support that could help communities strengthen their resilience.

This information will then be used to inform GMCA’s Climate Adaptation Strategy. As climate risks disproportionately affect vulnerable people, including older residents, low-income households, and those experiencing multiple disadvantages, reaching these communities and also underrepresented groups is a priority for GMCA.

Why taking part matters
The State of the VCSE Sector research is a major piece of work mapping the size, scope, diversity, and impact of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across Greater Manchester.

Your contribution helps ensure the activities, needs, challenges, and strengths of organisations like yours are fully represented. The stronger the evidence, the stronger our shared voice when advocating for funding, resources, and recognition.

Like households and other public services, policing continues to face financial pressures due to the cost of living and providing essential services.

Police funding comes from an annual central government grant and what Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) can raise locally from the police precept part of council tax. In Greater Manchester, the government grant represents 74% of funding for Greater Manchester Police (GMP), and the police precept GMCA sets makes up 26%. GMP precept in Greater Manchester is one of the lowest in the country.

Paul Dennett has asked that the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) respond to the Government’s consultation on Earned settlement which closes on 12th February.

The policies outlined in the consultation will have impacts on organisations and residents across Greater Manchester. As such, GMCA want to ensure their response reflects this, including the views of VCSE partners.
