We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our weekly Core Volunteer Day – our main volunteering opportunity at Hulme Community Garden Centre.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a working community garden environment while learning directly from our expert horticulturists, nursery managers and wider leadership team.
Volunteers will become part of the day-to-day running of the centre, supporting a wide range of horticultural, maintenance and community activities. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in gardening, environmental sustainability, practical skills development, community work or exploring a future career in horticulture.

Community First Aid Volunteers play a vital part in helping Community Medics deliver safe, compassionate, and community-focused first aid cover at events. You will work alongside experienced responders, supporting them in caring for patients, ensuring events run smoothly, and contributing to our wider community mission. You don’t need any previous medical experience. We will provide full training and guidance you need to feel confident in your role.

We will be thinning out/felling non-native and dominant tree species from the woodland, removing lower branches from trees to allow more light to reach the woodland floor and removing invasive species, like Cherry laurel and Rhododendron. We are carrying out this work to maintain a healthy and sustainable woodland that supports local wildlife and the surrounding community.

The RNLI is looking for Water Safety Officers, a pivotal role where you can be involved in the design and implementation of the Water Safety Lifesaving Plan. A Water Safety Lifesaving Plan is designed to identify “at risk” groups to reduce fatalities and serious incidents. You would be coordinating the local Water Safety team and collaborating with partners to create targeted interventions and assess how effective they are. This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who can work confidently within the RNLI while also leading a small team and operating independently when needed.
