As part of Greater Manchester’s Devolution agenda, for the first time Greater Manchester is taking control of £6 billion of public funding for health and social care from April 2016.

Carers Network Co-ordinator Grant

As part of its continued commitment to support carers, Manchester City Council is aiming to provide investment in 2016/17 through the Directorate for Children and Families Carers Funding programme.

This investment will assist in carers being identified early and the provision of support to enable the carers to maintain a balance between their caring responsibilities and a life outside caring, whilst enabling the person they support to be a full and equal citizen.

User Led Organisation (ULO) funding 2016-17

Skills for Care is making user led organisation (ULO) grant funding available again for 2016-17. The grant is available to deliver training or organise, purchase and support training, for people who employ their own care and support staff (individual employers). The learning delivered may include, but will not be restricted to, accredited health and social care qualifications.

Manchester Mind is looking for people willing to help shape their 6-week long free wellbeing in retirement course.

Carers accessing Sunday GP appointments

Manchester Primary Care Partnership, a GP tri-federation have developed a service for carers. It is an opportunity for carers to have an appointment with a GP every Sunday in 3 locations across Manchester from 1pm – 2pm.

This is currently a pilot project developed with Manchester Carers Forum and will run until the end of March.

COOKBank 2 day Training Course plus 4 bespoke 2 hour cooking session

Cracking Good Food is a sustainable cooking network, which promotes cooking seasonal food from scratch, supporting the local economy and food producers and reducing food waste through Cookery Schools & Community Outreach. 70% of the work is working with vulnerable, disadvantaged and hard-to-reach community groups.

Cracking Good Food are running a CookBANK 2 day Training Course on 25/26 April for 2 delegates followed by 4 bespoke 2 hour cooking sessions with your community members.

Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership

The Cancer Improvement Partnership (comprising Macmillan, Manchester City Council, Manchester CCGs, the Hospital Trusts and St Ann's Hospice) are continuing their programme of activity to speak to members of the public about their experience of cancer services.

Discussion groups are currently taking place on a new lung health check that will be introduced this year and a discussion group is planned on 8 March to be held in North Manchester (venue to be confirmed).

Love Rugby? Want to tackle HIV?

BHA, the health equality charity has been working with groups and communities living with and affected by HIV for 25 years.

As part of their anniversary celebrations RBS has kindly donated two Long Side, Lower Tier tickets to the England v Wales match at Twickenham on 12 March 2016.

BHA are auctioning these to their supporters and all the money will be used in their support work with children and young people.

Living with and beyond Cancer Support Group

The group has been meeting for two years and new members are always made very welcome. Everyone has had cancer or is living with the condition. There is a lively chat each time on a different theme with everyone sharing and learning from each other.

The group meets in the Post-Graduate Centre at North Manchester General Hospital at 10am-12noon.
