This one-day training course provides an overview of the roles and responsibilities of safeguarding leads in charities in England.
By the end of the training, you will be able to:
- explain the role of the designated safeguarding lead in charities and your relationship with other roles
- define the role of policies and procedures to manage risk in the context of your work
- describe how to receive and manage safeguarding concerns
- apply effective signposting and referral processes; including to statutory and multi-agency safeguarding arrangements
- apply principles of self care and safer working practices
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at staff or volunteers who are interested in becoming a designated safeguarding lead, or assisting those who already hold the position.
Participants should have attended our Essentials of Safeguarding in Charities training course or an equivalent introduction to safeguarding. You should have a good understanding of key safeguarding laws, concepts and definitions.
This course is designed specifically for organisations working with the public at large. It isn’t suitable for designated safeguarding leads who:
- work in schools
- work in regulated child or adult social care settings
- lead specialise provision such as domestic abuse sexual assault or hate crime services.
It's also a useful overview for staff and volunteers in international development charities. It isn't suitable for staff or volunteers working directly in humanitarian or development settings outside the UK.
