GM Poverty Monitor 2022

The Greater Manchester Poverty Action have launched the Greater Manchester Poverty Monitor 2022. The Poverty Monitor reveals the scale of poverty across Greater Manchester and covers ten digital heritage hubthemes: Child poverty, debt, deprivation, educational attainment, fuel and food insecurity, health, homelessness, housing, social security and the labour market.

Key findings for the whole of Greater Manchester include:

Groundwork - Green Doctors

Meet James who is 62 years old and from Wythenshawe.

Before being contacted by Groundwork, James was without any heating or hot water. His boiler had packed in, and he wasn’t sure on how he was going to get his boiler fixed. After speaking with a member of the Energyworks Team he managed to get his boiler replaced. He was extremely happy with the help he received, and how efficiently the gas engineers fitted his new boiler.

Manchester Mind: Rent arrears, debt and benefits

We have been supporting Andrea*, a 55-year-old woman with complex needs, who is a carer for her adult son. She was facing eviction from her private rented property due to rent arrears.

We identified that she had recently fallen victim to several financial scams, and advised on how to take measures to protect herself. She was searching for paid employment, so we were also able to provide her with resources and signpost her to nearby job clubs.

The National Emergencies Trust’s Local Action Fund

This match fund of up to £20,000 per project has been launched by the National Emergencies Trust as part of its Coronavirus Appeal. It offers support to voluntary and community organisations in fundingthe UK by helping them to counter financial challenges created by the pandemic, including the inability to fundraise in the usual ways, reductions in staff and volunteers, and increased demand on their services.
