MCC Health Scrutiny Committee meeting - January 2023
Macc attended Manchester City Council’s January’s Health Scrutiny Committee meeting. This meeting focused on emergency issues of sickness within communities, the pressure on hospitals, primary care, and the Ambulance Service and ongoing strike action. Manchester has had a severe flu season (500 people admitted to hospital across Manchester with flu during December) and cases of Covid are rising. Before Christmas, Strep A was high amongst children in Manchester with all critical beds being full. Other hospitals across the region helped to provide beds for children from Manchester.

BME Youth Together Fund

Formerly known as the Tackling Inequalities Fund, The Together Fund is a Sport England initiative which supports non-profit community organisations to recover and emerge from the long-term impacts of COVID-19.

Sports England Small Grants Programme
The Small Grants Programme from Sport England has returned with awards of up to £15,000 The fund will run until the end of June this year and will prioritise funding projects that can make the biggest difference to people that need it most.
Now, Small Grants has returned and the award limit has been upped from £10,000 to £15,000 in order to provide sport and physical activities for people who may be less physically active.
Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards 2023
The only Greater Manchester-wide awards for the whole health and care workforce are back for their fourth year and are bigger and better than ever.
As well as regular favourites such as People’s Champion and Volunteer Champion, new categories have been introduced this year including a Lifetime Achievement Award and Employer/Workplace of the Year.
Afruca Talks
Join Afruca every other Saturday as they discuss parenting in the Black and Ethnic community. It’s a welcoming environment to parenting issues in the UK.
The session are held remotely on Zoom every other Saturday 5.30pm-7pm.

Free digital skills training for the third sector
The Curve is a series of free, 90-minute workshops for third sector organisations. These online workshops aim to build knowledge around best digital practices, raise awareness of digital tools and ultimately help increase impact with digital. Workshops are open to anyone working or volunteering with a third sector organisation in the UK.
Mental Health Surge programme review
During Covid-19 VCSE mental health services experienced an unprecedented surge in demand. With funding from the GM Health and Social Care Partnership, VCSE mental health leaders designed a programme of initiatives that took a creative new approach to getting support to where it was needed most.
This work was facilitated by GMCVO and they have published details of the programme and its outcomes.
