Europia is offering free support and advice for Eastern European language speakers on the 2nd and the 4th Monday in October to February 2014, 4pm to 7pm at Ada House, 2nd floor, 77 Thompson Street, Manchester, M4 5FY

Come along if you’re struggling with:
• Access to benefits and other public services
• Communications with utility companies, landlords and housing associations
• Exercising your rights as an employer or temporary worker
• Communications with social servuces and other statutory agencies

Africans Unite against Child Abuse (AFRUCA) was established in May 2001 as a platform for advocating for the welfare of African children following the deaths of a number of newly-arrived children in the UK. It became a registered Charity in July 2002 and a Company Limited by Guarantee in October 2002 with a Board of Directors appointed to run the organisation.

AFRUCA prides itself as the premier charity promoting the welfare of African children in the UK.

DBS (CRB) Checking Service - Charges from 1 October

DBS Manchester at the Gaddum Centre has ended the free DBS checking service currently being offered to referred organisations through Volunteer Centre Manchester.

From October 1, 2013, the charges are as follows:

Volunteer checks £10
Non-Volunteer £15 (plus DBS certificate charges)
ID check £10

This still represents good value for money and DBS Manchester at The Gaddum Centre will, however, continue to train and advise customers on how to complete the application forms and conduct identity checks.

Help GMYN Get Manchester Young People Running Businesses in the Heart of Their Communities

Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) has made it through the last stage of the RBS Inspiring Enterprise application process and the shortlisted applications are now being put to a public vote, including GMYN’s application for their innovative “Trade Up” project.

Working in partnership with Manchester Markets, GMYN will support disabled young people to work as groups to set up and run their own temporary market-based businesses. GMYN will then provide mentoring and practical start up support to 16 young people to enable them to run their own market stalls.

Have you completed your electoral registration form?

All Manchester households will by now have had their annual electoral registration form which they must complete as soon as possible.

Some people don’t realise that they have to register every year. It’s a legal requirement to complete the form and if you are not registered you can’t vote and could affect your credit rating – its quick and simple and if your details haven’t changed you can register by text, phone or online in less than 60 seconds.

This could include help, advice or support from a range of either formal or informal sources, such as from substance use services, as well as the internet, friends and family, your doctor, a telephone helpline, self-help books etc.

North, Central and South Manchester Clinical Commissioning Groups and Macc are seeking to appoint an organisation to carry out the evaluation of a Grant Programme to reduce social isolation and loneliness

A total of £550,000 has been set aside by South, Central and North Manchester Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to provide grants to Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations (VCSOs) to reduce the isolation and loneliness of older people (50+).

The Grant Programme is administered by Macc, the main infrastructure organisation for VCSOs in Manchester. The Grant Programme is governed by a Programme Board made up of representatives from CCGs and other stakeholders.

Grow Your Tenner Starts 15 October

Localgiving.com is giving away £500,000 as Grow Your Tenner returns for another year of match funding.

On 15 October 2013 at precisely 10.00 am, Localgiving.com will double all donations up to £10 that are made to local charities and community groups registered on its website. Any voluntary and community group in England that has signed up to receive online donations on Localgiving.com may participate.

All donations up to £10 will be doubled which means that £10 becomes £20 or £22.50 with Gift Aid. Monthly donations can be doubled up to £10 a month for six months.
