Volunteer Management Committee Member Opportunity at Chorlton Youth Project

Chorlton Youth Project works with young people throughout Chorlton in South Manchester to help them engage in positive activities and learn skills such as team building, confidence and respect.

Through the provision of space to meet in the evening and a daytime service for children on the verge of exclusion from school, Chorlton Youth Project works with some of the most ‘hard to reach’ young people helping them to find their place in society and improve their general health and wellbeing. Chorlton Youth Project also run a summer playscheme for younger children each year.

CRB Changes from September 2012

 This voluntary sector briefing paper is aimed at managers who are responsible for safe staffing within voluntary sector organisations. It will also be of interest to practitioners (including volunteers) working with children, young people and families. It is designed to inform you of the current changes to CRB systems and to highlight key messages for voluntary sector organisations. The First part of this document refers to children and young people. The second part of this document refers to adults.

Manchester International Festival are recruiting volunteers

Manchester International Festival (MIF) are looking to recruit around 400 volunteers aged 18 and over from all over Greater Manchester.

The festival is in its 4th year now and returns from 4 – 21 July 2013, showcasing extraordinary and original work from the world’s leading artists across the spectrum of performing arts, popular culture and visual arts.

MIF are looking to recruit volunteers, whose invaluable support helps to make the Festival a success. There are a variety of roles for all skill levels, from front of house to backstage and marketing to administration.

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged on 1 December to form the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). As a result 'CRB checks' are now called 'DBS checks'. Volunteering England has produced a user-friendly guide to the new DBS/CRB checking system, see attached.

Volunteering England are looking to hear from organisations that have experienced, or know of, bad practice regarding inappropriate checking requirements from funding organisations, including local authorities.
