An event to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to talk about disability and celebrate talent and achievement in a safe space, reducing taboo and stereotypes and serving to foster positive attitudes.
Disabled people can be subjected to violence and abuse, because of religion or beliefs and the prevalence may be different for people within different religious groups.
This event will spotlight people with lived experience of disability to develop a spirit of empathy and understanding from people who have both the same and different backgrounds.
The event will include information about disability hate crime, accessibility and why we should be accessible, the Human Rights model of disability, and celebrating cultures. There will also be a community celebration and shared food.
Speakers include Dr Paul Whittaker OBE (Music and deafness), Nadia Clarke (Communication, cerebral palsy and wheelchair use), Pennine Mencap (Rhodes Bank Choir – learning disability), Sarah Emmott (ADHD and neurodiversity) and Elizabeth Senghore (Stroke recovery).
