I recently travelled to Margate in Kent with GMOPN Action Group member Elaine Unegbu, in order to attend the Big Lottery’s annual Ageing Better Conference. Having never been to a conference before, I was quite apprehensive and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I needn’t have worried though as the conference was fantastic! I had the opportunity to learn so much from a wide range of people and to find out what the rest of the country is doing in order to make their area more age-friendly.
Localgiving have announced that this year's Grow Your Tenner campaign will launch at 10am on Tuesday 11 December 2018. The campaign will run until the match funding is fully allocated or 12am on Thursday 10 January – whichever comes first.
This year Localgiving are putting a particular emphasis on encouraging people to become long term supporters of their local charities. With this in mind, Localgiving will match monthly donations for a full 6 months for donors who set up a direct debit to a Localgiving member for a year.
The Centre for Social Action has partnered with the Centre for Ageing Better to launch the Age-friendly and inclusive volunteering fund. The fund has been set up to develop and document models of good practice in supporting older people’s voluntary and community activity. 
This year’s Local Charities Day will take place on 14 December. Each year Local Charities Day shines a spotlight on the incredible work local charities do to build healthy and happy local communities. Local Charities Day builds on the work of the recently published Civil Society Strategy, where the Government committed to enhancing relationships between businesses, charities and local areas, to help communities grow.
Manchester Poverty Truth Commission is setting out with this question: What if people who have directly faced poverty were involved in decisions about poverty? 
Henshaws is a well-established registered charity based in the North of England supporting people with sight loss or other disabilities for over 180 years, to go beyond expectations, to live independent and fulfilling lives. 
The University of Manchester has a Student Experience Internship scheme which provides funding to pay for a limited number of students to undertake an eight week summer internship within organisations in the charity and not-for-profit sector in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Poverty Action (GMPA) have launched new research looking at the poverty premium in Greater Manchester. The poverty premium is the idea that low income households face higher costs for everyday goods and services compared to those on middle and higher incomes.
