Apply for a free Grow Wild seed kits to grow wildflowers this Spring

This coming spring Grow Wild are giving away free wildflower seed kits to groups who want to add a splash of colour to their area. The kits include wildflower seeds, a growing guide and resources for people to get their neighbours and group members involved in activity, and would work for both growing in containers (e.g. around a community centre or library) or in existing spaces (e.g. borders in a park or a community garden). Windrush Day Grants – apply by 21 January 2019

The Government has announced the launch of a new funding pot for projects that will celebrate and commemorate the Windrush Generation and their contribution to the country. Windrush Day, which will take place on 22 June 2019, will be the focal point of these projects. gov.uk

Do you like Arts and Crafts?

Northmoor Community Association are looking for a creative volunteer who would want to run their Creative Crafty Friendship group.

You would need to be available on Tuesdays between 9.30am-11.30am to set up, organise and run the group (starting in January 2019).

Experience in being creative and crafty would be beneficial.

Northmoor Community Association will offer support, including travel expenses.

Are We Oppressed? by Vic Finkelstein in UPIAS is published 44 years on

On 3 December 2018, a key document which helped in the creation and understanding of the social model of disability has being published for the first time. Forty four years ago it was compiled by Vic Finkelstein in UPIAS, the new and radical Union of the Physically Impaired Against Segregation. He called it, Are We Oppressed? and issued it in the summer of 1974. It is now freely available online at: https://tinyurl.com/yd7u9dc7.

The Poverty Premium in Greater Manchester

Known as the ‘poverty premium’, it has long been understood that low income households in the UK face higher costs for certain items. Greater Manchester Poverty Action’s research, published in November 2018, shows that low income households in Greater Manchester could be paying more than £1000 over the odds for everyday goods and services compared to those on middle and higher incomes.
