Grants for voluntary and community groups to help domestic abuse survivors/victims

If you're a voluntary or community group, you can apply for a grant of £50,000 to provide a recovery programme for survivors/victims of domestic violence and abuse.

The full £50,000 will be awarded to one successful applicant. Half will be paid as soon as possible, and the other half in November 2015, after a review of what you've done.

You can apply on behalf of your organisation or, if you're working with another organisation, you can apply together.

There are two types of grants available for Community Buildings and Housing:
• Community Buildings Pre-Feasibility Grant
• Community Buildings Project Grant

Community Buildings Pre-Feasibility Grant
Amount of grant available: Between £1,000 and £10,000

This grant will help you assess the feasibility of a community buildings project prior to submitting a Community Right to Build Order or (in the case of community-led housing projects only), a traditional planning application.

Fund to empower women to tackle abuse

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has launched the Women’s Empowerment Fund. The Fund is £250k in total and voluntary and community groups whose primary objective is to work with women in the community are invited to apply for funding for local community engagement projects that empower women.

Community Clear Up, 20 and 21 March 2015 - Get your free clear up kit

Saturday 21 March is the start of spring, and it's also National Community Clear Up Day. Join in with thousands of others across Manchester and the rest of the country and get together, roll up your sleeves and spring clean your neighbourhood.

If you and your neighbours, friends, family, communities or colleagues want to take part Manchester City Council can help by giving you a Clear Up Kit with litter picking tools and equipment to get you started. Your clear up day can take place on Friday 20 March or Saturday 21 March.

New questions on charity annual return

The updated online return which collects information from charities is now live on and ready for charities to use.

All registered charities with an income of more than £10,000 and all Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) who are reporting on their financial years ending in 2015 must complete the online form.

The form includes new questions which charities must answer that will strengthen the regulator’s ability to identify risk, and will ensure people have access to the information they need to make confident decisions about charities.

Student Placement Opportunity

As part of the University’s Q-Step programme, they are looking to offer placements for social sciences students in VCS organisations and think tanks. The placements must be about data analysis: the aim of the programme is to enable students to gain experience of data analysis, with a focus on quantitative data and skills in social research.

Placements are 6-8 weeks long – mostly in July and August. Students will be paid by the programme at Living Wage rate.
