Your Square Mile Seeks Opinions from Moss Side and Hulme Residents For ‘Social Capital Survey’

Community engagement organisation Your Square Mile is calling on the residents of Moss Side and Hulme to offer their views on their community, local politics and decision making through a Social Capital Survey.

Moss Side and Hulme residents can click on www.surveymonkey.com/s/GM9KVCR to fill in the survey. The results will help Your Square Mile track how things have improved in the area.

Consultation to establish a Guild for the Learning and Skills Sector

The FE Guild project has been set up to undertake a detailed study, between November 2012 and April 2013, into the concept of establishing an FE Guild.
The project is aimed at enhancing and developing the professionalism of the Further Education workforce and a vital element of the project is the widest possible consultation with the diverse FE sector.

Manchester BME communities to develop new local cervical cancer awareness campaigns

Representatives from BME groups throughout the country have come together in Manchester to discuss ways of improving awareness of cervical cancer and the benefits of cervical screening.

The event on 24 January, which was attended by over 50 participants, was co-hosted by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust as part of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2013. It represents part of an ongoing drive to reach women from BME groups.

Your Square Mile Launches Moss Side & Hulme Local Portal

Community engagement organisation Your Square Mile has launched a portal for Moss Side and Hulme, at www.moss-side.yoursquaremile.co.uk, creating a central hub for local projects, event listings, news and polls. Ranging from a community action forum to anti-violence initiatives, these projects were voted on in a public workshop held at the Zion Arts Centre in Moss Side in November.

Hi, and welcome to the new VYM Blog. Although this is entered as Ross’s blog, VYM is much more than Ross Grant, but more of that later. NCVO and CAF Campaign – Back Britain’s Charities

NCVO has released the results of their annual joint report with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). The findings are stark. They show a real terms 20% fall in donations to charities during the past year. Fewer people are giving and those who do are giving less. And this is against a backdrop of spending cuts and rising demand for services. Whilst the picture for individual charities varies this overall view of the sector is concerning.

Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly for Manchester – Join the Board

We are looking for people from local voluntary and community groups to join the Board of the new Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly for Manchester.

In the workshop at the Macc to the Future event in late September, it was generally agreed to get on with setting up the Assembly, we should seek to establish a Board by recruitment for the first year. This Board will then be subject to election at the Assembly’s first Annual Event in September 2013.
