Review of Third Sector Funding by NHS in Manchester

The three Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Manchester are carrying out a review of their funding of third sector organisations. The overall aim is to maximise the value of the third sector contribution. It is not primarily a financial review. The first wider engagement event will be held from 10am to 12am on Thursday 6th June at GMCVO. The event is open to all voluntary and community sector organisation working on health related issues in Manchester.

Volunteering in Social Care - Do you have a view?

Manchester City Council are reviewing a range of voluntary and community sector contracts/grants and are proposing to expand the use of volunteering as a way of reconciling increasing demand for social care support with cuts to social care funding.

This has triggered some concerns and debate within the VCS and within the Macc team about the proposed project that will ‘stretch their local offer on social care support, by expanding volunteering and community engagement’.

Working as part of the NHS Equality and Diversity Council (EDC), the NHS Commissioning Board is inviting a wide range of views to inform the development of the national strategy to promote equality and reduce health inequalities. The strategy will set out a clear approach, reflective of the values of the NHS Constitution, for promoting equality and reducing health inequalities for all groups across the life course.

Manchester Deaf Centre Leads Pilot Deaf Volunteer Health Project across Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester’s largest Deaf Charity, Manchester Deaf Centre is gearing up to empower its D/deaf members to influence local health and social care provision.

The three year project, which is managed by national healthcare charity, SignHealth has been made available following a grant of £592,000 from the Department of Health’s Health and Social Care Volunteering Fund (HSCVF).

Regional Voices have published a short briefing document for the voluntary and community sector called "Influencing Local Commissioning on Health and Care". It describes the role and membership of Health and Well Being Boards, what a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment is and how to contribute to it, and how both of these contribute to the process of designing a Joint Health and Well Being Strategy.
