Mental Health at Work

Small and medium organisations account for 99% of the businesses in the UK. But research shows that, when it comes to mental health, they often fall behind larger organisations.

We know that there are unique challenges, as well as unique opportunities, that come with working in smaller businesses. We’ve put together a collection of resources designed to help, focused on Mind’s new, free and quick eLearning, Mental Health for Small Workplaces.

New support offer designed to equip health, care and VCSE leaders to build relationships that will transform the healthcare system – with a practical focus on working together to achieve joint action.

The NHS Long Term Plan commits local healthcare systems to working in a new way – from a focus on prevention and reducing health inequalities to earlier diagnosis of cancer and respiratory conditions.

Forward Enterprise Fund

Ex-offenders and people in recovery from addiction are two groups mainstream employers are least likely to recruit. Yet having a job can bring independence and self-respect, and is the single most effective factor in reducing the risk of re-offending. Barnes, Cotton Districts

The main purpose of Barnes, Cotton Districts is to provide a regular income (currently £45 per month) for people in financial need whilst suffering from permanent of temporary illness, disease or disability. Barnes, Cotton Districts also give one-off grants, usually to assist with the purchase of specific items of equipment related to their illness (e.g. new bed/fridge etc.)

Having heard the good news that I had been offered the role of Health and Care Development Worker at Macc, I was obviously elated and very keen to get started. So, I looked in my diary and saw that the North Manchester Community Explorers meeting was coming up. These meetings have been so useful for me in my previous role as a Community Connector. They have supported me to learn about the fantastic work being done within the VCSE sector but also became pivotal for me when building networks across sector boundaries. You’ve got to love those relationship building opportunities, right?

New Disabled Women’s Peer Support Project

Breakthrough UK are inviting disabled women who connected over Breakthrough’s Democracy Disability Devolution Events to join a new weekly peer group. It will be a safe space where disabled women can relax and enjoy themselves in a welcoming, accessible and friendly group. Members will lead the group and decide how it is run. Breakthrough staff and volunteers will attend to offer support and provide any training needed on running groups.
