Manchester celebrates International Women’s Day every 8 March. The theme for 2014 is Women as Peacemakers.

Manchester’s International Women’s Day Women’s Awards 2014 is a great opportunity to celebrate women and inspire future generations of Manchester girls.

If you know a fantastic woman or a group or women who deserve recognition, take this opportunity to nominate them in one of the ten award categories.

Africans Unite against Child Abuse (AFRUCA) was established in May 2001 as a platform for advocating for the welfare of African children following the deaths of a number of newly-arrived children in the UK. It became a registered Charity in July 2002 and a Company Limited by Guarantee in October 2002 with a Board of Directors appointed to run the organisation.

AFRUCA prides itself as the premier charity promoting the welfare of African children in the UK.

This was formerly the Chief Officers Group and was relaunched in April 2017. It is open to Chief Officers or equivalent representatives from any voluntary and community sector organisation in the city of Manchester.

DBS (CRB) Checking Service - Charges from 1 October

DBS Manchester at the Gaddum Centre has ended the free DBS checking service currently being offered to referred organisations through Volunteer Centre Manchester.

From October 1, 2013, the charges are as follows:

Volunteer checks £10
Non-Volunteer £15 (plus DBS certificate charges)
ID check £10

This still represents good value for money and DBS Manchester at The Gaddum Centre will, however, continue to train and advise customers on how to complete the application forms and conduct identity checks.

Help GMYN Get Manchester Young People Running Businesses in the Heart of Their Communities

Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) has made it through the last stage of the RBS Inspiring Enterprise application process and the shortlisted applications are now being put to a public vote, including GMYN’s application for their innovative “Trade Up” project.

Working in partnership with Manchester Markets, GMYN will support disabled young people to work as groups to set up and run their own temporary market-based businesses. GMYN will then provide mentoring and practical start up support to 16 young people to enable them to run their own market stalls.
