BBC Children in Need Small Grants and Main Grants Programmes – 2013 Deadlines

BBC Children in Need's Small Grants programme and Main Grants Prograemmes are open to charities and not-for-profit organisations to apply to.

The BBC Children in Need focus firmly on children and young people experiencing disadvantage. BBC Children in Need fund organisations working to combat this disadvantage and to make a real difference to children and young people's lives.

Such disadvantage includes:
1. Illness, distress, abuse or neglect
2. Any kind of disability
3. Behavioural or psychological difficulties
4. Living in poverty or situations of deprivation

Parliamentary Inquiry Seeks Views on Engaging Young People with Charity

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) have launched the Growing Giving Parliamentary Inquiry.

The first strand of the Parliamentary Inquiry will examine the role of education in helping young people to learn about and engage with charity. It will examine potential new opportunities for young people to become involved in charity and how we can make giving opportunities fit for the digital age.

CAF would be grateful for ideas and evidence from everyone with an interest in this area.

Work Programme is performing well below expected targets

When the Work Programme was first introduced as part of the new Welfare to Work agenda the LSEN organised a number of meetings, seminars and events to inform voluntary organisations about the opportunities and risks of getting involved in the Programme as a sub-contractor.

It became clear, early on in these discussions, that the Programme did not recognise the difficulties many people at a distance from the labour market would find in re-engaging in sustained employment.

Volunteer Management Committee Member Opportunity at Chorlton Youth Project

Chorlton Youth Project works with young people throughout Chorlton in South Manchester to help them engage in positive activities and learn skills such as team building, confidence and respect.

Through the provision of space to meet in the evening and a daytime service for children on the verge of exclusion from school, Chorlton Youth Project works with some of the most ‘hard to reach’ young people helping them to find their place in society and improve their general health and wellbeing. Chorlton Youth Project also run a summer playscheme for younger children each year.

Safeguarding Children with a Disability

You will have seen recent briefings encouraging organisations to attend training on Safeguarding children with a disability.

This training pack has been developed following the review and is for use within your organisations to train the multi-agency workforce. The powerpoint includes notes slides.

Key messages from the review are relevant to all organisations that work with children and young people and you should ensure that you can disseminate this information throughout your organisation.

Postcard Poetry Competition - calling young budding poets

Poems should be under 100 words.

Entry categories: 6–10 years, 11–13 years, 14–16 years.

This competition is open to 6-16 year olds and three lucky winners (one from each age group) will see their poems printed on limited-edition postcards.

Leaving Macc

Hello Everyone,

I’m sure some of you will have heard that I will be leaving Macc at the end of this week. I’m off to pastures new (and cold) where I will be completing my Applied Psychologist training for children and young people in Glasgow. I’m very much looking forward to the new challenges this will bring.

I have really enjoyed the last three years at Macc working in a sector that is constantly evolving and striving to improve outcomes for children, young people and families in a difficult and challenging environment.
