This introductory course explains the key trustee responsibilities for safeguarding, following guidance from the Charity Commission.

Safeguarding is a fundamental part of operating as a charity for the public benefit. Trustees must take reasonable steps to protect people who come into contact with their charity from harm.

This course will help trustees embed safeguarding in their governance. The course also explores common safeguarding risks trustees should be aware of, and how to manage personal behaviour and relationships.

In her groundbreaking book Art Cure: The Science of How the Arts Transform Our Health, Daisy shows us that the arts are not a luxury; they are essential to our health, happiness, and ability to flourish.

Most organisations learn: some formally through structured processes, others informally through day‑to‑day practice. The challenge is to understand how learning already happens in your organisation and then identify the right interventions to intentionally grow and strengthen a learning culture.

In this session, we (NPC) will look at learning as a culture‑change process through four lenses:

Did you know around 20% of the population live with a disability? Yet despite this, much of the content we create online still isn’t fully accessible. Whether it’s a newsletter that’s isn’t screen reader friendly, or a social media post without alt text, many people can be unintentionally excluded from your charity’s messaging due to inaccessible content.

This session will look at the legislation, and what trustees need to know and do. It will also look at how best to apply it in a community building setting where you may be hiring space but have little direct interaction with the vulnerable people attending the activities.

Have you ever felt that excitement when you come across a funder that seems like a great fit, only to be stopped in your tracks by those three deflating words: “no unsolicited applications”?

What should you do in this situation: Consign them to the scrap heap? Take a punt and apply anyway? Find a different way of engaging them?

Do you get the most engagement from your Facebook, Instagram or X (Twitter) posts? Why do some posts get more clicks than others? This session will look at how to increase engagement.
