Volunteer Development - South Manchester Learning Hubs Network Tender

Manchester City Council are inviting proposals from interested freelance individuals or consultants to submit proposals to secure this piece of work, which aims to build the capacity of the learning hubs network to better train, develop, deploy and support volunteers.

This project will provide an opportunity to continue to work with members of the learning hubs network on an intensive basis with a selected cohort of volunteers who are in a position to develop their role as work club leaders; trainers and advisors.

New charity accounting framework published

Two new Statements of Recommended Practice (SORP) have been published by the joint SORP making body, the Charity Commission and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

The new SORPs provide a comprehensive framework for charity accounting that all charities that prepare accrual accounts must follow. The new SORPs apply to financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2015.

Get Involved in Silver Sunday 2014

Silver Sunday, on 5 October 2014, is an annual day of free activities and events for older people across the UK. It aims to celebrate the value and knowledge they contribute to our communities and to combat the loneliness which affects many older people. A recent survey announced that 2/5 of older people regard their TV as their main form of company and Silver Sunday’s goal is to reach out to these isolated members of the community.

Manchester’s free Wi-Fi network, ’freebee’, provides 30 minutes’ free internet access in key city-centre locations. You can browse the internet, access services, use social networks and search for local businesses and destinations while on the move – and it’s free.

Access ‘freebee’ on _FreebeeMcr Wi-Fi. After the initial free 30 minutes, you can either disconnect or opt to pay £3 for unlimited access over the next 24 hours.

SITA Trust's - Enhancing Communities Fast Track Fund next deadline 18 August 2014

Enhancing Communities is the name of SITA Trust's funding programme for community improvement projects.The fund will support projects that make physical improvements to community leisure facilities and historic buildings / structures.

The Fast Track Fund provides grants of up to £20,000, available to not-for-profit organisations with a community leisure amenity improvement project that has an overall cost of no more than £40,000.

Not-for-profit organisations including community groups, parish councils, local authorities and charities can apply.

Rosa's FGM Small Grants Programme-Round3

Rosa have announced the opening of their third small grants funding round aimed at tackling Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the UK.

Funded by Comic Relief, in Round 3, an estimate of 8-10 grants of between £500 and £5,000 to voluntary and community organisations will be awarded for projects tackling FGM across the UK. Grants will be available for training, mentoring, research, networking, and delivering advice, support, and awareness-raising services.

Paul Goggins Memorial Prize

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Poverty is honoured to announce the Paul Goggins Memorial Prize. Paul Goggins MP was the Secretary of the APPG Poverty and a strong voice for the anti poverty campaign in and outside of Parliament.

The prize will be awarded to the best civil society initiative that can demonstrate that it has reduced poverty in a tangible way.

The prize, worth £3000, will be given jointly by the APPG on Poverty and the Webb Memorial Trust.
